Get ready to kick off the Midsumma season with the biggest, most vibrant family event of the year! The Midsumma Carnival is a Melbourne icon, and Rainbow Dads Victoria is once again hosting our famous family picnic right in the heart of the action. This isn't just a picnic; it’s a chance to soak up the sun, celebrate our community, and let the kids experience the joy of being surrounded by hundreds of other rainbow families.

Whether you want to watch the famous Dog Show, explore the community stalls, or just lounge on a picnic rug while the kids play, this is the place to be. It’s a completely flexible day, feel free to arrive early, head home for a nap, and come back without the kids for the evening festivities!

New to RDV or First Time at Carnival?

We know that walking into a massive event like Midsumma can feel overwhelming, but don't worry—we’ve got you! Our picnic spot is designed to be a "home base" for our dads. Look for our RDV banners and a sea of friendly faces.

If it's your first time, expect a high-energy, inclusive, and incredibly welcoming atmosphere. You’ll see families of all shapes and sizes, plenty of allies, and more wagging tails than you can count. Just come over, say hi, and we’ll introduce you around!

What to Expect:

• Prime Location: We are aiming for a spot in the Family/Picnic Precinct with the best possible shade cover and proximity to the kids' entertainment.

• Live Updates: On the morning of the event, we will post a "Live Pin" and a photo of our setup so you can navigate straight to us through the crowds.

• Family Vibe: A casual, "come as you are" atmosphere where kids can be kids and dads can relax.

• Endless Entertainment: From the main stage performances to the roving performers, there is never a dull moment at Carnival.

• Comfort is Key: Pack your sturdiest picnic blankets or camping chairs.

• Sun Safety: Melbourne weather is unpredictable—bring hats, high-SPF sunscreen, and sunglasses.

• Hydration & Snacks: Bring an Esky stocked with your family’s favorite drinks and food to keep everyone fueled for the day.

• Extra Shade: If you have a portable gazebo or a large beach umbrella, please bring it along! Your fellow dads will thank you.
