If you've found your way here, chances are you're a rainbow dad, or you're on your way to becoming one. Either way — welcome. You're in the right place.
Rainbow Dads Victoria has been around since 2016, born out of a simple but powerful idea: that rainbow dads shouldn't have to parent in isolation. That there should be a place where your family is just a family. Where you can show up to a Saturday morning playgroup, grab a coffee, let the kids run around, and just be normal — no explanations required.
Eight years later, we're a community of over 300 families across Victoria. We run weekly playgroups in multiple suburbs, events throughout the year, dads-only catch-ups, workshops, and everything in between. We're still entirely volunteer-run. We're still completely free to join.
What we actually do
At the heart of RDV are our weekly Saturday playgroups. They're relaxed, informal, and genuinely welcoming — especially if you're coming along for the first time. Beyond that, we run a full calendar of events throughout the year: Midsumma, Pridefest, Father's Day picnics, holiday parties, workshops for dads and kids, and plenty of adults-only nights out.
We also know that the journey to becoming a rainbow dad can be long and emotionally intense — whether you're navigating surrogacy, adoption, co-parenting, or donor conception. RDV is a place to find dads who've been through it, who can answer the questions your lawyer can't, and who understand what it actually feels like to be in the waiting room of parenthood.
Who RDV is for
RDV is open to any dad who identifies as a rainbow dad — or is on the journey to become one. Solo dads, partnered dads, co-parents, step-parents, transgender dads, dads from previous relationships, dads still building their family. Regardless of relationship status, cultural background, age or family structure — you belong here.
