Two sides of the city, one community - a closer look at our Melbourne playgroups

Every Saturday morning, something quietly wonderful happens across Melbourne. In the north and in the south, rainbow dads are doing what rainbow dads do best - showing up, having a coffee, and letting the kids sort themselves out.
Rainbow Dads Victoria has regular weekly playgroups running across the city, and between them they've become the heartbeat of our community.
North side
Our north side playgroup has been running for the last 2 years and has the warm, familiar energy that comes with time. The kids know each other. The dads know each other. New families are welcomed like they've always been there, because that's just the kind of group it's become.
If you're in the inner north, north east, or anywhere that side of the city, this is your crew.
South side
The south side playgroup is a newer addition to the RDV calendar of events and has its own distinct energy — a little more spread out geographically, drawing families from St Kilda, the south east, and everywhere in between. Same vibe though. Same coffee. Same genuine warmth.
What actually happens at a playgroup
Not much - and that's entirely the point. We arrive, the kids play and the dads talk. There's no agenda, no icebreakers, no name tags. Just families spending a Saturday morning together in a space where nobody needs to explain themselves.
For a lot of our members, the playgroup is the first place they ever felt like their family was just a family. Not a novelty, not a teachable moment. Just normal.

Both playgroups are free, open to all RDV members, and run most Saturday mornings. Check our events page or the RDV Facebook group for this week's locations.
